Feb 6: first square and other progress

So I decided to start with a 12 in square today. I used the Ad Astra Pattern http://www.yarncrazy.com/ad-astra

here's the yarn and hook

the finished square

and what I did with the leftover yarn, there is a wonderful lady on crochetville that is collecting "yo yos" and turning them into blankets to donate so I'm starting a stash of them to send to her, here are two, and a little bit of yarn leftover to make a magic ball

now other than that I've been working on the blanket I'm making for Miss T.J. here's the pattern Heirloom Baby Blanket probably one of the more complicated projects I've ever undertaken honestly. And here is where I am so far with 7 rounds left to go.

and finally the other new blanket I started, I'm doing a variation of this pattern Mitered Squares Afghan I saw this pattern and decided it was perfect for the leftover yarn from my hubby's blanket. However I am changing it up a bit. I'm making only 4 motifs and making them much larger (though it may still be only a lapghan when it's done). So far the variegated sections are all done (though the last one wasn't when I took this pic)

And here is the rest of the yarn for the blanket, the gray was not in hubby's afghan but I had several skeins and thought it would go well.

Most recent projects

So we had 4 snow days this past week. While I was glad to have a little bit of time off, I'm shuddering at the thought of going to school until mid-June to make it up lol, ok not really. Anyway I decided to make my time useful, I got some housework done, some work towards finding a new job (we're hoping to move back home where our families are when hubby graduates from vet school in May), and then I decided to tackle some UFOs sitting around the house. First up hubby's blanket: he has been using the classic ripple my grandma made me ages ago for a while now and so I decided it was time to make him a blanket of his own. He requested that it be large so he could wrap up in it. I went with blues, all Red Heart Yarn: shaded dusk, spa blue, and soft navy. I used the Holiday Stripes Throw pattern from Red Heart (a flyer I picked up at the store) and just kept going beyond what it calls for, giving it a simple 2 rounds of sc as a border. That would be our 6 year old who just had to be in the picture LOL

Once I finished that I decided it was time to finish the pink starghan I was making for my niece Miss C. G. I had bought a bunch of Bernat Baby Jacquards in Berry Cherry (um yeah pink variegated) to make a blanket for my friend Amy's baby girl (still working on that one) and there was enough extra I asked C.G. if she wanted a blanket. She loves pink, much to the chagrin of my not so girly girl sister LOL. Got it done and she has it now, apparently she was snuggling with it in the car last night.

Then it was time to finish the scarf I had promised for another niece, the Pixie. Apparently she loves pink and purple (girl after my own heart) so I decided to do a mile a minute scarf in neon pink and purple.

more projects to post later, all older one, well except for pics of the two ghans in progress, including the one for Miss T.J.

Starting to blog again

I've had this blog for a few years now and used it off and on, never very consistently for long. I've finally decided on a use that I think is one I can stick with. I'm going to try to catalog all of the projects I've made through the years, which might take some work. This will also help me keep up to date with new projects. I'm going to also be challenging myself to crochet one thing a day, with that in mind I want to use up all the yarn hanging out around my house, all the leftover balls and partial skeins of yarn. Sooooo I've decided to work my way through the 6 and 12 inch square patterns on http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/ I won't be attempting any graph squares just yet, I'll get to those, especially because I think those will be the easiest way to start learning to graph. Doing both the 6 inch and 12 inch squares will allow me to choose depending on the time I have available considering what else I'm working on and all of life in general :) I'll also use this blog to post progress pics of the projects I'm working on. Hopefully that will keep me working.
